Fish range from temperate species to tropical visitors carried south on the East Australian Current.


- Gordon’s BayBeginner friendly Protected by an offshore reef, with an underwater nature trail — great for new divers and navigation. 14 mmax depth
- Bare Island The protected side is diveable even when the sea is rough, with multiple sites around the island. 20 mmax depth
- Camp Cove An easy shore dive entered from the beach, inside South Head. 19 mmax depth
- Shark Point One of Sydney’s best shore dives, on the north side of Clovelly Bay — a tricky rock entry. 25 mmax depth
- Bushrangers Bay 90 minutes south near Shellharbour: sheltered, easy shore access and plenty of marine life. 18 mmax depth
What you’ll see
Iconic NSW species live here year-round. The blue-ringed octopus is a rare but thrilling sight — keep your distance!

Sydney dives all year. The water is warmest from January to April and coolest from June to August.
