Frequently asked questions

What does the course cover?

Assessing a casualty, keeping everyone safe, calling emergency services and using the resources around you. You practise CPR and defibrillator use, an adrenaline autoinjector for anaphylaxis, asthma medication, choking, immobilisation for bites and stings, fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains, and managing bleeding and shock. In simulated real-life situations you also use and maintain specialist equipment: basic airway adjuncts, tourniquets and haemostatic dressings for life-threatening bleeding, and oxygen at the correct flow rate.

Is it a WorkSafe first aid course?

No. It follows Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, but it is not a WorkSafe first aid programme and doesn’t issue a Unit of Competency. It isn’t a workplace first aid certificate. It’s for divers, as the first aid prerequisite for the Rescue course.

Does it cover the Rescue course prerequisites?

The Rescue course needs current First Aid, CPR and Oxygen Provider training. This course covers all three.
