Sea slugs
What to look for
Bright spots of colour on sponges, rock walls and seaweed. Many nudibranchs feed on one particular sponge or sea squirt, so find the food and you’ll often find the slug. Look for the feathery gills on their backs and the two “horns” (rhinophores) on their heads.
Tips
Go slow, stay close to the reef without touching it, and bring a torch to bring out the colours. They’re a favourite subject for underwater photographers.
