The dive
After entering, drop beneath the waves to about 8 metres. After a short swim the bottom falls away to 13 metres, covered in huge boulders with fish hiding in every gap.
Keep heading south-east and you reach the line where rock meets sand, at around 25 metres. The rocks here are thick with sponges and ascidians. Look for wobbegongs, cuttlefish, bullseyes, roughies and blue devilfish. A little deeper you may find pygmy pipehorses, if you have a sharp eye.
There’s a lot to see here, and it takes several visits to see it all.
Getting in and out
You enter and exit from the point, off the rocks. This is the hardest part of the dive and the reason the site is rated for experienced divers. Go with a buddy or guide who has dived it before and knows the entry and exit.
Conditions and tips
Typical visibility is about 13 metres.
New to Sydney shore diving? Start with a calmer site such as Gordon’s Bay, also in Clovelly.
