Bush Rangers Bay
Bushrangers Bay is one of the South Coast’s most popular shore dives and a favourite for Sydney divers heading to Bass Point Reserve. Located near Shellharbour, around 90 minutes south of Sydney, it offers a great combination of easy shore access, sheltered conditions, and plenty of marine life, making it a fantastic site for both newer and experienced divers.
The site is accessed via stairs down into the bay, with a relatively straightforward entry into shallow water. Inside the bay, divers can explore rocky edges, kelp-covered sections, sandy patches, and deeper areas near the entrance to open water. Depths start shallow and gradually increase, allowing for an easy and relaxed dive profile, with the option for more experienced divers to explore a little further outside the bay when conditions suit.
Bushrangers Bay is well known for its variety of fish life and regular sightings of larger marine animals. Divers may encounter schools of bream and yellowtail, leatherjackets, rays, squid, cuttlefish, and the resident blue groper. In recent years, grey nurse sharks have also become a major drawcard at the site, with seasonal sightings making this an especially exciting location for both divers and snorkellers.
This is a great site for a double-dive day, with the reserve offering a scenic place to relax on the surface between dives. Bushrangers Bay is ideal for training dives, social dive trips, and anyone looking for a beautiful shore dive in a protected marine setting.
