The 40 m Deep Diver course in Sydney follows on from Advanced: you plan and make dives from 18 to 40 metres off our boat, Sea Life V, under an instructor’s direct supervision. It prepares you for deep sites such as Truk Lagoon and the President Coolidge. Pro Dive has taught hundreds of thousands of people to dive since 1969.

Itinerary

  1. BeforeOnline training

    Complete all the online training before the course start date.

  2. Day 19:30 am – 6:00 pm

    Course orientation and exam, then ocean dives.

  3. Day 212:00 pm – 6:00 pm

    Ocean dives, skill sign-off and dive logs.

From June to September, Sunday boat dives run in the morning, 7:45 am – 1:00 pm. Times are a guide. Your instructor confirms where to meet, where Sea Life V picks you up and which sites you’ll dive each day.

Requirements

Medical conditionsSome conditions, like heart disease, asthma or epilepsy, may stop you diving. Tell us before you book if you have a medical condition.

Certification

  • Advanced certified. Bring your certification card and logbook.
  • At least one dive in the 6 months before the course.

Gear

  • Tanks, weights, BCD and regulator are included.
  • Bring a safety sausage and a torch.
  • Gear hire is available: one-piece wetsuit, BCD, regulator with dive computer, and dive torch.

Age

  • Minimum age 15.
  • Under 18? A parent or guardian must sign a consent form.

Medical

  • Fill in the dive medical questionnaire before the course.
  • If you answer "yes" to any question, or you are 60 or over, you need a doctor to sign you off as fit to dive. Send us that form when you book or at least 7 days before the course starts.

English

  • The online theory is available in several languages. All training with your instructor is in English, so you need to be comfortable in it. Other students can’t translate for you.

Dive training starts with the standard recreational diver medical questionnaire, the same wherever you train. What it involves, and when you need a doctor.

Frequently asked questions

What will I learn?

To plan and organise deep dives; the equipment, descent lines and buoyancy control deep diving needs; and how to recognise and prevent the hazards of decompression sickness. You make training dives between 18 and 40 metres under a Pro Dive instructor’s direct supervision.

How deep can I dive after the course?

The course certifies you to dive to 40 metres.

Can I add Nitrox?

Yes. Add Enriched Air Nitrox training to the course: theory and practical lessons, plus a nitrox tank and fills for your training dives.

Is the certification recognised overseas?

Yes. Your certification is issued by International Scuba Certification and is recognised worldwide.
