Marine Life Sightings on March 12 and 13

This past weekend, March 12th and 13th has been an exciting one. There have been sightings of marine life that has pleased many of the PRO DIVE staff members.  Joe, Miranda and Cleo all reported seeing Dusky Whaler sharks along the left side of Shelley Beach as you near Fairy Bower. According to Course Director Mick these sharks did not appear in Manly last summer so everyone was relieved when they returned this season. These sharks are quite small and timid, the largest ones spotted are about a metre in length. Bubbles blown from the exhaust valves on divers regulators can scare them away so any sighting is a treat. Other instructors have reported seeing up to 20 of these on one dive at the Bower. They tend to swim past the divers just at the periphery of ones visibility so you must be keen and focused to catch a glimpse of them.

One of PRO DIVEs customers, Sheridan, said that she saw 7 or 8 wobbegongs on one dive on Saturday afternoon. The dive was at Flag Staff.

Brad reported having an awesome dive off the boat at Wedding Cake on Sunday. He said the water is still 22 degrees according to his Suunto D9 dive computer. The divers are not the only ones enjoying these temperatures. Brad saw a huge blue groper on the dive as well as heaps of cuttlefish. Ricardo was also on the boat that day and he reported seeing very large eastern blue devil fish while at Wedding Cake. These are rare fish and getting an opportunity to see them in their natural habitat is enough to make any diver feel very excited.
