Area Info

The third largest city in Australia and Queensland's capital, Brisbane was once regarded as just a big country town. Today a variety of cafes, restaurants and specialised eateries; hectares of landscaped gardens and a host of sports and entertainment venues give Brisbane a modern sophisticated sense of style. Even better, good diving lies just kilometers off shore in Moreton Bay.
The nearest true coral reef to Brisbane also happens to be called Flinders Reef. One of the best dive sites in Southern Queensland, it features extensive coral gardens, swim throughs, canyons, ledges and pinnacles, all home to some 175 fish species.
Another popular spot is the continually growing Curtin Artificial Reef, which at last count consisted of 14 vessels, a former Brisbane tram, various car bodies and assorted other jetsam. They, in turn, have attracted a variety of grateful fish, including Queensland Groupers, Cod, Kingfish, Turrum, Red Emperor, Trevally, Sweetlips, bream Mackerel, Tuskfish, Parrotfish and wrasse.
