The most reliable Coral Sea access is September to January. Spoilsport’s favourite dive locations from the Fly Dive Coral Sea Itineraries will be selected should weather force an itinerary change.

  • Please note that the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority requires us to collect an Environmental Management Charge of $7 per day spent on the Great Barrier Reef.  This amount will be added to your bar bill at the end of your expedition. Gear hire can be provided at an additional charge. 
  • You will need to make your own way to the Mike Ball Dive Expeditions office for check in for your expedition.  After your expedition we will transfer you to either our office, airport or any inner city hotel. Inner city boundaries are within the airport to the north and Earlville shopping centre to the south.
  • You will need to book your own flights to and from Cairns. The best airfares are available online

    • Some medical conditions may prevent you from diving. For example: heart disease asthma, epilepsy or diabetes.
    • Please inform us prior to reservation if you suffer from any medical condition that may affect your diving.
    • Australian medical standards are different to those overseas. A medical obtained in another country will most likely NOT be valid in Australia.
  • Travel Insurance covering for diving medical emergencies.

Itinerary


Sample itinerary, subject to change based on conditions.

Thursday:  

  • Check in at our office (3 Abbott St, Cairns) between 8.30am and 4pm.
  • From 4:30 pm:  Make your own way to Hemingway’s Brewery Cairns Wharf (200m from MBDE office) to meet your fellow passengers.  Please note that dinner is not provided on the first evening so you may wish to eat before boarding.
  • 5:50 pm: Our crew will lead you from Hemingway’s Brewery Cairns Wharf to board Spoilsport.  Enjoy a glass of champagne and light snacks while your Trip Director provides a full briefing.
  • 6:30 pm:  Spoilsport departs Cairns
  • Time to organise any rental equipment and put your dive gear together on the dive deck.

Friday:  (4 dives + night dive) This is a sample of a ‘typical day’, however exact times may vary to optimise the prevailing weather conditions on the day.

  • 6:30 am: Wake up call, light breakfast available in dining room
  • 7:00 am: Dive brief & diving commences
  • 9:00 am: Full cooked breakfast
  • 10:30 am: Dive briefing & dive. “Open decks” accommodate 1-2 dives either am or pm
  • 2:00 pm: Lunch
  • 3:30 pm: Dive brief & diving
  • 4:30 pm: Afternoon tea
  • 6:30 pm: Night dive brief & dive
  • 8:00 pm: Dinner

Saturday:  (4 dives + night dive)

  • As per above

Sunday: (4 dives)

  • As per above. Exit last dive by 5 pm.
  • As the sun sets we pour the champagne, lay out the nibbles and get ready for an Aussie BBQ party night. Don’t forget to wear your loudest tropical shirt or dress and sing along to music played by our talented crew.
  • Overnight cruise to Lizard Island.

Monday:

  • 7:00 am: Light breakfast
  • 8:00 am: Disembark Spoilsport. Our crew will walk you to the airport on Lizard Island.
  • 9:30 am: Board a light aircraft for a low level flight over the reef back to Cairns (flight time approx. 1 hour).
  • 11:45 am: Land Cairns and courtesy transfer to inner Cairns city hotels, the airport or our office where we can store your luggage until 5pm if you have a later flight.

Important:

  • We recommend that you allow 24 hours between your last dive and your onward flight (all diving is finished by 5pm Sunday).
  • A luggage allowance applies to the flight from Cairns to Lizard Island:
    • 25kg / 55lb per person plus 3kg / 6.5lb – carry on.
    • An additional 10kg/22lb is allowed for professional photo/video housed systems.

Requirements


  • Certification and experience

  • Minimum certification: Advanced, or 15 logged ocean dives inc. 5 in last 12 months
  • Certification card and logbook (digital or paper) must be presented at check-in.
  • If you haven't dived in the last 12 months, book a refresher before departure.

  • Medical fitness

    You must confirm all four statements below. If you cannot confirm any of them, you need a dive medical clearance from a doctor, dated within the last 12 months, that addresses every relevant condition and medication. Clearances issued with conditions or limitations are not accepted. Tell us at the time of booking, as dive restrictions may apply.

  • You are medically and physically fit to dive and snorkel.
  • You have no illness or injury that may affect your ability to dive or snorkel safely.
  • You do not have, and have never had, a heart or lung disorder, high blood pressure, asthma, epilepsy, narcolepsy, diabetes, or any other condition that is a contraindication to diving.
  • You are not taking prescription medication (other than contraceptives).

  • Insurance

  • Travel insurance is required. Cancellation for any unforeseen reason must be claimed against your travel insurance, not against PRO DIVE.
  • Dive and medical evacuation cover is required. If you have a dive or medical emergency needing evacuation or treatment, you are responsible for the cost if you are not adequately insured.
  • Weather, mechanical breakdown or the evacuation of a guest may shorten, alter or cancel the itinerary. Compensation for altered trips, reduced dives, or lost or damaged belongings and equipment is claimed against your travel insurance. No refund is offered.
  • You authorise us to arrange medical care and transport in your best interest and agree to pay the costs incurred on your behalf. Documentation is provided for your insurance claim.

  • Assumption of risk

    Diving is a recreational activity involving significant physical exertion and risk. You acknowledge that you are aware of the risk of injury or death associated with participating in this trip and voluntarily assume that risk. To the extent permitted by law, Mike Ball and PRO DIVE, its employees and agents are discharged and indemnified by you, your executors, administrators and dependants from any liability for damage, death or injury arising out of or incidental to this trip and any other services provided, whether or not caused or contributed to by Mike Ball and PRO DIVE
