Exclusions

Please note that the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority requires us to collect an Environmental Management Charge of $7 per day spent on the Great Barrier Reef. This amount will be added to your bar bill at the end of your expedition. Gear hire can be provided at an additional charge.
You will need to make your own way to the Mike Ball Dive Expeditions office for check in for your expedition. After your expedition we will transfer you to either our office, airport or any inner city hotel. Inner city boundaries are within the airport to the north and Earlville shopping centre to the south.
You will need to book your own flights to and from Cairns. The best airfares are available online

Cost of Dive Medical - if required.
- Some medical conditions may prevent you from diving. For example: heart disease asthma, epilepsy or diabetes.
- Please inform us prior to reservation if you suffer from any medical condition that may affect your diving.
- Australian medical standards are different to those overseas. A medical obtained in another country will most likely NOT be valid in Australia.
Travel Insurance covering for diving medical emergencies.

Thursday:

Check in at our office (3 Abbott St, Cairns) between 8.30am and 4pm.
From 4:30 pm: Make your own way to Hemingway’s Brewery Cairns Wharf (200m from MBDE office) to meet your fellow passengers. Please note that dinner is not provided on the first evening so you may wish to eat before boarding.
5:50 pm: Our crew will lead you from Hemingway’s Brewery Cairns Wharf to board Spoilsport. Enjoy a glass of champagne and light snacks while your Trip Director provides a full briefing.
6:30 pm: Spoilsport departs Cairns
Time to organise any rental equipment and put your dive gear together on the dive deck.

Friday: (4 dives + night dive) This is a sample of a ‘typical day’, however exact times may vary to optimise the prevailing weather conditions on the day.

6:30 am: Wake up call, light breakfast available in dining room
7:00 am: Dive brief & diving commences
9:00 am: Full cooked breakfast
10:30 am: Dive briefing & dive. “Open decks” accommodate 1-2 dives either am or pm
2:00 pm: Lunch
3:30 pm: Dive brief & diving
4:30 pm: Afternoon tea
6:30 pm: Night dive brief & dive
8:00 pm: Dinner

Saturday: (4 dives + night dive)

As the sun sets we pour the champagne, lay out the nibbles and get ready for an Aussie BBQ party night. Don’t forget to wear your loudest tropical shirt or dress and sing along to music played by our talented crew.
Overnight cruise to Lizard Island.

Monday:

7:00 am: Light breakfast
8:00 am: Disembark Spoilsport. Our crew will walk you to the airport on Lizard Island.
9:30 am: Board a light aircraft for a low level flight over the reef back to Cairns (flight time approx. 1 hour).
11:45 am: Land Cairns and courtesy transfer to inner Cairns city hotels, the airport or our office where we can store your luggage until 5pm if you have a later flight.

Important:

We recommend that you allow 24 hours between your last dive and your onward flight (all diving is finished by 5pm Sunday).
A luggage allowance applies to the flight from Cairns to Lizard Island:
- 25kg / 55lb per person plus 3kg / 6.5lb – carry on.
- An additional 10kg/22lb is allowed for professional photo/video housed systems.

Requirements

Divers who have completed less than 15 dives, less than 5 ocean dives or less than 5 dives in the last 12 months are required to complete a complimentary onboard orientation dive. In addition, divers over 65 years old, who have completed less than 50 dives are required to complete the complimentary onboard orientation dive.
If you have not dived in the last 5 years we recommend you complete a Refresher Course to maximize your comfort, enjoyment and the number of dives that may be undertaken with us. There are a number of Cairns diving operations that can complete a PADI Refresher Course (additional cost) before your expedition. This will need to be booked in advance. Please contact reservations to enquire.

If you have not dived in the last 10 years you will need to be either re-certified, or complete a Refresher Course and show proof of two logged ocean dives to dive with us. If this requirement cannot be met prior to travel we provide one Discover Scuba Dive per day with a depth limit of 12 metres. Additional Discover Scuba Dives will be dependent upon staff availability and will be charged at $50 per dive.

Exemptions for both of the above exist for divers with more than 200 dives or if Dive Master certified or higher.
Insurance should be taken to cover: weather problem; expedition cancellations; airline difficulties; medical problems and lost or damaged luggage. Unforeseen weather or machinery problems may cause us to cancel or change an itinerary. No refund is offered for time lost due to the medical evacuation of a guest or reduction of dives due to weather conditions. No compensation is offered to guests to change flights or holiday plans. DiveAssure offers cover for both Australian residents & non-residents traveling to Australia.
