The dive
Schools of parrotfish gather around the bommie, and plankton feeders crowd the front wall. Along the way you’re likely to see fusiliers, chromis, coral trout and butterflyfish, with white-tip reef sharks and various pelagic fish passing through.
Turtles are regularly seen here, so keep an eye out over the coral.
Conditions and tips
The site is well sheltered. The maximum depth is 20 metres, and visibility is 10 to 20 metres, averaging about 15 metres.
It rates novice to intermediate.
How to dive it
You dive Agincourt Reef on a day trip from Port Douglas. Certified divers get up to three guided dives at three different sites, with a full briefing before each one. Sites are chosen on the day to suit the weather and tides, so we can’t promise a particular site.

What you might see
- Green turtleThe turtle you’ll meet most on the reef: grazing on the shallows, resting under ledges, surfacing to breathe beside the boat.

- Whitetip reef sharkThe slender shark asleep under the ledge. Harmless, curious at night, and a resident at several of our sites.

- BarracudaSilver schools that hang in the blue off the bommies, sometimes hundreds thick, with a few solitary big ones.
- Coral troutThe reef’s most handsome predator: bright red with a scatter of blue spots, lurking by the bommies.
- ParrotfishFrom the crunching schools of bumpheads to the sleeping bags of mucus at night, parrotfish are the reef’s builders and gardeners.
