The dive
The rocky bottom here is cut by large gullies and cracks that you can explore. In some spots they take you as deep as 37 m.
As you work your way through the channels you’ll find kingfish, leatherjackets, yellowtail, seapike, perch, bullseyes, cuttlefish, butterfly perch and black-banded perch, sergeant bakers, red rock cod, gropers and plenty of eastern blue devilfish.
Who it suits
Dee Why Wide is an ideal site for advanced and deep divers. The deepest parts are well beyond Open Water limits, so dive within your training and your guide’s plan. If you want to go deeper, see the advanced course.
You also need to have dived recently enough for your experience to join the boat. The boat dive requirements list the details.
On the boat
We dive Dee Why Wide from Sea Life V as part of a two-dive boat trip leaving from Rose Bay or Manly. A dive briefing is given before you get in, and full gear hire is available on board.
Sea Life V is a purpose-built 43 ft (13 m) Steber dive boat with a big dive deck and dual ladders. Nitrox is available if you’re nitrox certified; bring proof when you board.
