The Divemaster course in Sydney is where you move from diver to dive professional: a part-time, practical programme tailored to you, where you learn to lead shore and boat dives, guide certified divers and assist on courses. Pro Dive has taught hundreds of thousands of people to dive since 1969.

  • Australian dive medicalYou need a dive medical to work as a divemaster. During the programme, you only need one if you answer yes on the medical form when you start.
  • Professional membershipYour dive professional membership is an additional fee.
  • InsuranceRequired to work as a divemaster. It isn’t included.

Requirements

Medical conditionsSome conditions, like heart disease, asthma or epilepsy, may stop you diving. Tell us before you book if you have a medical condition.

Certification and experience

  • Rescue certification.
  • First Aid and Oxygen Provider.
  • 40 logged dives before you start Divemaster training.
  • Before certification: evidence of at least 5 deep dives, night dives and navigation dives, or those specialty ratings.

Age

  • 18 or older.

Gear

  • Your own snorkelling gear, surface marker buoy, whistle, torch, knife and slate.

English

  • All training with your instructor is in English, so you need to be proficient in it. Other students can’t translate for you.

Dive training starts with the standard recreational diver medical questionnaire, the same wherever you train. What it involves, and when you need a doctor.

Yes. The course runs part time. After the orientation weekend we put together a tailored itinerary so you can meet the course requirements.

What will I be able to do as a Divemaster?

Run and lead shore dives, boat dives, weekend and overseas dive trips, and assist on dive courses.

What do I need before I start?

You must be 18 or older, with Rescue certification, First Aid, Oxygen Provider and 40 logged dives.

What comes after Divemaster?

The Instructor Development Course, which trains you to teach people to dive.
