The dive
Malabar isn’t famous for big schools of fish, but you’ll see the typical reef life you find around Sydney. Head out towards the northern point and you reach the wreckage of the Malabar.
Most of the dive is between 2 and 14 metres. Swim far enough and you can reach about 18 metres.
Why divers choose it
Because the bay is long and narrow, it’s protected from northerly winds and even a moderate south swell, when many other ocean sites are rough. It suits divers of all levels.
It’s also a good site for a check dive, trying out new gear or a drysuit, or practising technical skills. Typical visibility is about 7 metres.
Getting there
Parking is easier here than at many Sydney shore sites, with a car park on the northern side of the bay.
Malabar is one of the sites for our guided shore dives in Sydney. We choose the site on the day, with the conditions in mind.
