4-day Open Water course
Starts every Tuesday. Taught in English.

- Days 3–4: two day trips to the outer reef on Poseidon or Silversonic
- 4 training dives, plus up to 2 fun dives if you pass and time allows
- Small groups, with the same instructor all 4 days

4-day course

Dive theory in the classroom and scuba skills in the pool.
- Days 3–4Outer reef
Two day trips on Poseidon or Silversonic. You make your four training dives, and may get two fun dives as a new diver.
Requirements
Swimming
- Swim 200 metres, or 300 metres with mask, fins and snorkel.
- Tread water (float) for 10 minutes.
Age
- Minimum age 10.
Medical
- Before the course, fill in the self-assessment Student Diver Medical Declaration. Read about dive medicals.
- A “yes” to any question means you need a dive medical certificate saying you’re fit to dive.
- The medical must be done before the course starts, and be no more than 90 days old when you start.
eLearning (3-day course)
- The theory is compulsory and must be finished before the pool day.
Dive training starts with the standard recreational diver medical questionnaire, the same wherever you train. What it involves, and when you need a doctor. Each trip operator’s own medical and waiver requirements are emailed with your booking confirmation.
Frequently asked questions
Should I do the 3-day or the 4-day course?
Both finish with two days on the outer reef. The 3-day course suits you if you’re short on time: you do the theory online before you arrive, which saves a day in the classroom. The 4-day course teaches the theory in a classroom in Port Douglas.
How many dives do I get?
The 3-day course includes 6 dives on the reef: 4 training dives and 2 fun dives. The 4-day course includes 4 training dives, and if you pass and time allows, up to 2 fun dives as a new diver.
Who runs the course?
Quicksilver Dive, part of the Quicksilver Group, runs the course in Port Douglas. Pro Dive sells it; there’s no Pro Dive shop in Port Douglas.
