The dive
About 1 km off Coogee Beach is a collection of rocks about 150 metres long and 50 metres wide. They poke out of the sea at high tide and stand out more as the tide drops.
As you descend, the reef drops away in shelves at about 5, 8, 15 and 18 metres, and the sand line is at about 22 m. The main wall is at 15 m, home to sea squirts and several small gorgonians, with overhangs and caves along it that shelter the fish.
What you might see
Wobbegong sharks, yellow-banded seaperch, old wife, snapper, bream, blue groper, combfish, six-spined leatherjackets, rainbow runners and kingfish, with schools of luderick in the shallows. If you’re lucky, eastern blue devils and cuttlefish, and there are many species of nudibranch.
