The dive
Under the cliffs of Sydney Heads, the rocks tumble into the water and slowly give way to sponge gardens and a sandy kelp bottom. It’s mostly rocky reef with a few sandy patches, with sponges and soft corals growing on the rocks. It suits all levels of experience.
The Centurion struck the rocks here in 1887 before sinking inside the harbour.
What you might see
Blue groper, cuttlefish, lizardfish, yellowtail, nudibranchs, pygmy leatherjackets, shrimps, and sponges, sea squirts and ascidians, along with plenty of other temperate reef life.
