The dive
The best of North Bondi, the Slot and the Cathedral, is a 20-minute underwater swim from the shore. By boat we drop you right on it. The reef here is a maze of gutters, overhangs and swim-throughs, with kelp down to about 15 m giving way to sponge gardens in the deeper parts.
It’s often our second dive when the boat heads south to Magic Point.
What you might see
Schooling fish, including kingfish, Australian salmon and yellowtail scad, blue groper, and wobbegong sharks. Giant cuttlefish and Port Jackson sharks turn up in good numbers in season, and grey nurse sharks are seen here too.
Conditions
Visibility here is often better than at other sites on the same day: up to 20–25 m on a perfect day, and 6–10 m on most dives. It dives best when the wind and swell come from the north.
