Open Water Course

Learn to dive in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef Marine Park!

Becoming an Open Water Diver is the best way to start your scuba adventure due to worldwide recognition!

With personalized training and taking enough time, we make sure you are truly comfortable under water with the skills and equipment you will use. Your Open Water Diver course consists of 3 parts: Academics, Pool Training and Open Water Sessions.

Courses start every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Environmental Management Charge

The Environmental Management Charge of $6.50 per person (inc. admin) is collected for entry into the GBR Marine Park.

The funds received from the EMC are vitally important in the day-to-day management of the Marine Park and in improving its long-term resilience.

All funds received as EMC payments are applied directly to management of the Marine Park including education, research, ranger patrols and policy development.

Dive Medical

If required the dive medical must be arranged prior to the course.  Click here to check the online Medical Questionnaire to check if you require a Doctors certificate.

Optional Extras

Price is based on SSI course.  If you would like to be certified through PADI there is an additional cost of $100. Please call us if you would like to select this option.



Online Training: Before starting the course you will be required to complete your Online Training.  This will take approx. 6-8 hours and MUST be completed before Day 1 of the course.  To register for this go to -

Day 1

  • Classroom Session - Review of the key theory
  • Watermanship Test - 200m swim and 10 minute Tread or Float
  • Pool Session - Learn all the skills in the pool before heading to the ocean.

Day 2

  • Exam - 50 question multiple choice
  • Open Water Dives 1 & 2

Day 3

  • Open Water Dives 3 & 4
  • Complete logbooks and paperwork

  • Minimum age 12 years old
  • Swim Test – 200m swim & 10 min tread or float
  • Online Training – theory must be completed in advance.  To register for this go to -

* Some medical conditions may require a doctor’s clearance prior to participation in scuba diving activities. If required, Doctor’s certificates must be obtained prior to course or trip commencement date and be valid within 12 months.
