Open Water Course

Learn to dive in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef Marine Park!

Becoming an Open Water Diver is the best way to start your scuba adventure due to worldwide recognition!

With personalized training and taking enough time, we make sure you are truly comfortable under water with the skills and equipment you will use. Your Open Water Diver course consists of 3 parts: Academics, Pool Training and Open Water Sessions.

Courses start every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Itinerary


Online Training: Before starting the course you will be required to complete your Online Training.  This will take approx. 6-8 hours and MUST be completed before Day 1 of the course.  To register for this go to - https://my.divessi.com/register.


Day 1

  • Welcome, orientation and paperwork
  • Introduction to your scuba equipment
  • Equipment set-up
  • Lunch break
  • Watermanship Test - 200m swim and 10 minute Tread or Float
  • Pool Session - Learn all the skills in the pool before heading to the ocean
  • Equipment breakdown and care
  • De-brief

Day 2

  • Equipment set-up
  • Open Water Dives 1 & 2
  • Equipment breakdown and care
  • Lunch break
  • Exam - 50 question multiple choice
  • Complete logbooks and paperwork
  • CELEBRATE!!!

Day 3

  • Equipment set-up
  • Open Water Dives 3 & 4
  • Equipment breakdown and care
  • Complete logbooks and paperwork
  • CELEBRATE!!!

Requirements


  • Minimum age 12 years old
  • Swim Test – 200m swim & 10 min tread or float
  • Online Training – theory must be completed in advance.  To register for this go to - www.divessi.com/register.
  • Completion of Medical Declaration*.

* Some medical conditions may require a doctor’s clearance prior to participation in scuba diving activities. If required, Doctor’s certificates must be obtained prior to course or trip commencement date and be valid within 12 months. Click here to check the online Medical Questionnaire to check if you require a Doctors certificate.

Terms and Conditions


Cancellations, transfers or non-attendance

If you cancel your course, on or within 7 days of the start date, no refund will be given.

If you cancel a course with more than 7 days notice, a refund will be offered, less $100 fee.

If you fail to attend your course, no refund will be given; rebooking will be at full cost.

You may transfer your course to a new date once, free of charge, with more than 7 days notice.

Transfers made between 24hrs and 14 days of the start date will incur a $100 fee. No exceptions.

Any cancellations made within 24hrs of your course start time will result in forfeit of the course and rebooking will be at full cost.

If you have indicated yes to any of the questions on the Dive Medical, then a medical certificate will need to be provided at time of booking or prior to the course start date, stating you are ‘fit to dive’ unconditionally. Failure to do so will result in forfeit of the course and rebooking will be at full cost.

In the case of a failed Dive Medical, a medical signed by a qualified diving physician stating that you are medically unfit to dive must be provided 7 days prior to the course beginning in order to secure a refund.

If an emergency medical condition manifests within 24hrs of your course start time, proof must be provided in order to transfer your course at the reduced rate of $100.00.

If a medical condition manifests outside of 24hrs and temporarily prevents you from completing the course, the above conditions apply.

You may transfer a course to a friend or family member at least 24hrs before the start time for a $100 rebooking fee.

If you have signed up for the Scuba Schools International (SSI) online training more than 90 days prior to your cancellation or transfer, the cost of the training will also be deducted from any refunds.

If you fail to complete the course during the scheduled time, a fee of $100 is payable to complete the course at a later date.

Any courses purchased through a special offer or discounted price are strictly non-refundable. You may however, transfer the course to a friend or family member; the above conditions apply.

All fees are per person.

Courses are subject to minimum numbers and appropriate weather conditions.

MAGNETIC ADVENTURE DIVERS PTY LTD (PRO DIVE MAGNETIC ISLAND) will endeavour to confirm all courses the day prior to Day one of the course, on review of the latest weather forecast but reserves the right to cancel at any time. 


Course requirements

Failure to adhere to all of the pre-course requirements found on your voucher (including completion of any online training and the online medical questionnaire) will result in cancellation of the course. No refund will be given, and rebooking will be at full cost.

You must be able to swim 200m and tread water for 10 minutes. Failure to perform these swim tests within the allocated time frame will result in course cancellation without refund and rebooking will be at full cost.

All courses must be complete within 90 days of the original start date.


Minimum Age

Our minimum age for Learn to Dive programs is 12yrs+

Under 18’s must have a parental waiver signed by parent/guardian on day one of the course.


Spoken Languages

All verbal instructions are in English only and you are required to be proficient in English. No translation services are available or can be used during the course and other students cannot translate on behalf of the instructors.


Insurance

All students are strongly advised to purchase a comprehensive Travel Insurance policy that covers:

  • Trip / Course Cancellation
  • Lost / damaged personal belongings or equipment, due to any reason, and
  • Evacuation and Medical cover (if Scuba Diving ensure this is covered in the policy)

Note: In a medical emergency, any evacuation, vessel relocation or medical expenses are the financial responsibility of that passenger.
