Where to snorkel
The best coral is along the right-hand headland , where coral gardens hold plenty of colourful reef fish. Rays and turtles are often seen around the bay. Divers log shallow shore dives here too, reaching about 7 m.
Conditions
Boats are kept out of the bay. Visibility is often limited, typically a few metres, and drops further during and after south-easterly winds.
The beach is patrolled, so swim between the flags and follow the lifeguards’ advice. Marine stingers are present in tropical Queensland waters all year, with the highest risk from November to May; the Queensland Government suggests a full-body lycra suit for protection.
