How the day works
- Sea lions firstAt Hopkins or Grindal Island you get a wetsuit, mask and snorkel, and a crew member is in the water with you the whole time. The sea lions come to play, with somersaults and swirls. After about an hour, it’s back on board for a hot shower and a coffee.
- Then the sharksOn to the Neptune Islands Marine Park for shark cage diving. The sharks are wild and come and go as they please, so time in the cage varies between groups. There’s plenty to see from the deck while you wait your turn.
- Not swimming? If you’d rather not swim with the sea lions, you can join the captain in the tender boat to watch them.
Operated by Calypso Star Charters. Pro Dive sells the tour; there’s no Pro Dive shop in Port Lincoln.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be a diver?
No. You snorkel with the sea lions and go into the shark cage without any diving qualification.
What if we don’t see any sharks?
Sightings can’t be guaranteed. The operator’s no-shark policy gives a partial refund and a voucher to come back within 12 months. See the terms and conditions.
What if the weather is too rough for the sea lions?
The tour runs as a shark cage diving charter instead, and you can take a partial refund or join a sea lion swim on another day at no charge.
Can I just do one of the two?
Yes. See shark cage diving or swimming with sea lions.
