The site
The beach sits inside the entrance to Wagonga Inlet, near Apex Park. Its enclosed position and the breakwall make the water much calmer than the open coast, so it suits children, beginners and anyone getting used to their gear.
Look for juvenile fish, squid and jellyfish, and occasionally small seahorses.
Around the inlet
Australian and New Zealand fur seals often haul out on the breakwalls at the inlet entrance. Inside the inlet, the water along the Mill Bay Boardwalk is known for schools of fish, rays and visiting seals and dolphins.
