OceanQuest, a three-deck dive catamaran

The boat

OceanQuest

A 35-metre, three-deck catamaran built for dive holidays, with a large dive deck, big sun decks and hot fresh-water showers. Cabins are air-conditioned with ensuites, and there’s a lounge and bar for the evening.

Built in 1988 and renovated in 2013, she’s 13 metres wide and cruises at 9 knots. There are 23 cabins, each with its own bathroom, for up to 44 guests. Choose a twin-share or double cabin.

The chef cooks generous breakfasts, lunches and dinners, with dessert after your evening in the water. OceanQuest uses more than 14 permanent moorings at Saxon and Norman reefs, and selected spots at Hastings Reef.

Your two days

    8:30 am Leave Cairns Marina on the day boat SeaQuest, with two dive or snorkel sessions before you transfer to OceanQuest

Intro dive start times are posted on the dive deck. Snorkellers can also buy an intro dive on board.

Requirements

Divers complete a medical self-assessment.Answer the four questions before your trip. A “yes” to any of them means you need a medical from a doctor. If you’re pregnant, or trying to become pregnant, don’t dive. About dive medicals.

The self-assessment

  • Have you ever had an illness or injury that may affect your ability to dive or snorkel safely?
  • Do you have, or have you ever had, a heart or lung disorder, asthma, epilepsy, diabetes or any condition that rules out diving?
  • Are you taking prescription medication (other than birth control or anti-malarials)?
  • Are you not medically and physically fit to dive or snorkel?

Insurance

  • Travel insurance covering cancellation, medical emergencies and scuba diving activities.

Certified divers

  • Open Water (or Scuba Diver) certification, at minimum.
  • No minimum age for certified divers.
  • Dive guides cost extra.

Ages

  • Guests must be 18 or over to travel unaccompanied on overnight trips.
  • Anyone under 16 must be supervised by an adult at all times, in the water and around the boat.
  • All ages are welcome, but there are no facilities for infants on board. Travelling with an infant? Contact us first for advice on what to bring.

What’s the night dive?

Certified divers can join a night dive such as Sharks in the Dark or fluoro diving.

How many divers per guide?

Up to 8. Ask about a private guide.

Can I hire a camera?

Not on board.

Where can I park in Cairns?

Betta Airport Parking is recommended, and the operator does a pickup from there.
