Cairns is the international gateway to Tropical North Queensland. With easy access to two of the worlds great treasures, the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef and fragile rain forests of the Daintree and Cape Tribulation, Cairns has become one of the world's favourite tourist destinations.
Cairns offers easy access to one of the world's most renown diving locations - the Great Barrier Reef and the Coral Sea- by providing the most popular departure point for the specialist live aboard dive vessels offering multiple night stays out on the Reef , directly off Cairns as well as exclusive diving and snorkel tours cruising north from Cairns along a series of Reefs known as the Ribbon Reefs to Lizard Island and out to dive the deeper coral sea reefs. For many you can choose to learn to scuba dive and spend several nights out on the reef to complete your training and to do some fun dives at the same time. Opportunities are available to everyone to experience the Great Barrier Reef including snorkelling and doing an introductory scuba dives from the popular boats offering day trips.
More Adventures provided by professional Cairns operators include white water rafting, hot air ballooning, parachuting, fishing, sea kayaking helicopter trips to the outer reef.
Seasonality: Cairns is a 12 month of the year destination and as with all tropical destinations has a wet season (from December through to the end of March). During this time, the climate is hot and humid and can be subject to cyclones. Cyclones are unpredictable and fortunately not an every day event. During the wet season, it is not a windy time of year and most days sea conditions are moderate and the visibility reaching the local average of 10-15 meters.
